HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY

The University of Ilesa, Osun State, Nigeria was established on 27th September, 2022 when the Law establishing the University was signed. The University came into being following the upgrade of the then Osun State College of Education, Ilesa to a full-fledged University.

The purpose for upgrading the then College to a University is to provide greater access to education opportunity and help to reposition education as a vehicle to promote entrepreneurial education, train job creators and produce experts exploring the mining opportunities and agricultural potentials as well as provide a continuous flow of trained experts capable of maximizing the exploration of the mineral potentials at her disposal, generate employment and numerous start-up companies, in the State of Osun and Nigeria.

The University of Ilesa, Osun State was officially recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on Thursday, 10th November, 2022, as the 60th State-owned University and 220th University respectively, in the Nigeria University System. Principal Officers were appointed for the University on 12th April, 2023, with Professor Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, Ph. D., FCA as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor.
